Friday morning we headed out to the Mountains of North Carolina. Even though it is only a 3 hour drive, and Scott has family there, we have NEVER taken the kids. After seeing how nice the area is, we have already started to make plans for another weekend there when Jessica tracks out next in October.
First off, the reason we were there. Two of Scott's cousins had daughters graduate High School this year. Their parents got together and had a cook out for them.

This trip also served as a mini family reunion for Scott's family. He had family from Pittsburgh and from New Jersey (Debi, remind me to tell you something) come down to celebrate with the graduates.
When we first pulled into the neighborhood, we ran into some of Scott's family. They were headed to Blowing Rock. We stilled needed to check in and had not fed the kids lunch, but Jessica wanted to ride with them so off she went. When we got inside, the hotel lobby was GREAT! They had a fire going, in JULY!!

Unfortunately, we have taught the kids all too well and the boys just kept saying "tot, tot" and would not go near the fire. So no good shots of that!
After taking out luggage up to the room, Delaney and the boys enjoyed a ride down on the luggage cart.

After a quick lunch, we took the kids for a dip in the pool. Owen and Delaney LOVED it (which is nothing unusual) but Sean wanted nothing to do with the water. After a short nap, we headed to cousin Margaret's house for a cookout with family. All of the kids had a great time getting to know each other again. We have not seen them in a year. Here are the younger ones playing in yard.
Then we headed across the street to feed the cows. The boys LOVED it! They kept saying "cow, cow, cow"

Just down the street, we saw this:

I tell ya, we have to pay for that kind of entertainment back home!
Then we went to watch the fireworks. There was not enough room for Aunt Peggy to sit in the front of the van, so we just stuck her in the trunk.

OK, OK, I am just kidding! Maybe!
The fireworks were great. They had a live band playing before they started (sorry no pictures, I didn't get close enough) The kids found a great spot to sit.

This post is way longer than I ever thought it was going to be, so I will have to break it up into multiple post. Check back later for Day~2
